Camp Earns Cross Country All-American

Saturday morning freshman Noah Camp (Winfield, Kans.) and junior Katy Vanderploeg (Haviland, Kans.) braved the northeastern cold and represented Barclay College in Houghton, NY for the National Christian College Athletic Association national meet. Camp entered the race with a top ten qualifying time while Vanderploeg used a personal record run to qualify late in the season.

Even with the cold conditions, Camp shaved nearly a whole minute off his best 8k time to finish fourth place out of 56 runners with an official time of 28:50. He used a 5:48 average mile to set both personal and school records as well as earn him NCCAA Division II All-American status as a freshman.

Vanderploeg finished 30th in the women’s 5k race. It wasn’t her fastest time of the season, but proved to be an incredible experience for her.

Next up for the two runners is the possibility of furthering their training during the spring outdoor track and field season.
