Men’s Basketball Gears Up for MCCC

Tuesday night, the Bears were coming off an impressive 81-66 win over NCAA Division III University of the Ozarks (Clarksville, AR) when they traveled to Moore, OK to tackle #4 Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College. It was the second meeting between the two schools this year to satisfy their requirements to be in the NCCAA Division II Southwest Region.

The first time around, the Saints were able to sneak out of Haviland with a 96-90 win. This time around, however, the Saints needed no sneakiness. In the opening minutes of the game, the Bears went toe-to-toe with the fourth ranked team in the country, but, thanks to nine first half three pointers, the Saints led by 19 at halftime. Unfortunately, the Saints didn’t cool down much in the second half, as they connected on another six three pointers to finish 15-29 from that range and easily dispatch the Bears 81-100.

Junior Charles Brodhead (Lompoc, CA) paced the Bears with 30 points on 9-15 shooting and eight rebounds. Senior Tony Graham (Baltimore, MD) contributed 20 points and Freshman Jay Milton (Paris, TX) was one rebound away from his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

On Friday, the Bears (4-10, 1-1) travel east for two Midwest Christian College Conference games. They take on Calvary Bible College (Belton, MO) on Friday night at 7:00 PM CST and then Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO) at 3:00 PM CST on Saturday.
