Barclay College Soccer – End of the Year Review (2011)

Team Highlights

· Conquering “The Hill” together

· 7 W, 7 L (not counting JUCO and JV games)

· 2 and 2 in conference play

· Finished 3^rd at the national tournament (winning two out of three games at nationals)

· First year to have a chaplain – Sean Austin. We started this role to provide an opportunity for ministry and leadership development. Austin has been encouraging, serving, hard-working, and did a great job of helping us to stay focused on Christ.

Coaching Highlights

· Playing against my childhood soccer hero and improving against his team – Kevin Kewley, formerly of the Wichita Wings and Liverpool.

· Coaching with my life-long friend, Steve Davis, and with associate pastor and coach, Marc Compton.

· Having a team not only outperform expectations, but having a team that did such a great job of glorifying Christ in the midst of the battle that players from other teams are wanting to attend Barclay next season.

Senior Spotlight – Eliot Hinshaw

What does it mean to be a leader? To set an example, to show the way to go, and to direct others. Besides leading in scoring and in assists, senior captain, Eliot Hinshaw, lead the team in receiving the most yellow cards. As most soccer fans know, receiving a yellow card is not always a bad thing. It typically means you are competing too aggressively and simply need a cautionary warning.

Eliot also led the team week in and week out by his work ethic. He was inducted to several all-conference teams throughout his career. This year’s honors include: team captain, MCC All Conference Second Team, ACCA Nationals All-Tournament Team, and ACCA All-American. Eliot finished his collegiate career with 34 career goals, 26 assists, a bunch of yellow cards, and many thrilling moments.
