Volleyball Forced to Wait for 2015

Regretfully, Athletic Director Royce Bryan has canceled the 2014 Barclay College Volleyball season due to unforeseen circumstances.

This last off-season the Bears transitioned coaches. Shari Bryan, who had been on staff for three seasons at Barclay college, one year as the assistant and these last two years as the head coach, opted not to coach for family reasons.  The Bears then hired a veteran coach in Larry Lewis, who is a full-time Barclay College employee, to take the reins.

Late in the summer the Bears received official word that four returning players from last season would still be attending Barclay College but not playing volleyball. In addition, two additional Barclay College student/athletes transferred to other institutions. That meant the Bears held their first week of practice with five players but were hopeful that they could pick up a player or two from within the student body. Then, the final blow was injury related. What was believed to be a season-ending injury, was the last straw and the Bears were forced to focus their attention on the 2015 season.

“We are extremely excited about Coach Lewis and what he brings to the Athletic Department at Barclay College. I really believe when it is all said and done, he will be one of the best volleyball coaches we have had here,” said Athletic Director Royce Bryan. “It is just unfortunate that circumstances played out the way they did for this season. I really feel for Coach Lewis but am confident he will do everything in his power to right the ship and be ready come August of next year with a new class of volleyball recruits.”
