Lady Bears Start 1-0 in Conference Play

The Barclay College Lady Bears basketball team opened the season with two games at Hockett Auditorium over the weekend. On Friday night the Lady Bears hosted NJCAA Division II Hesston College (Hesston, KS) and then on Saturday afternoon they took on Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA).

“Hesston was deep and athletic. I thought the first ten minutes we were competitive and then they just wore us down.” The Larks proved to be a pretty tough match-up for the Lady Bears as they won the game by a score of 92-57. Sophomore RaeLyn Epp led the Bears with 20 points.

Saturday brought the Faith Baptist Lady Eagles to town. Faith is the first opponent Barclay has faced this year that is a fellow NCCAA member. Barclay came out with a lot of intensity and built a big halftime lead, 36-15, and then coasted the rest of the way. The Lady Bears won by a  final score of 65-37.

Senior Sarah Sullivan led the Bears in scoring with 14 points while Freshman Mercedeez Bell chipped in 11 rebounds and Epp added 7 steals.

The Lady Bears are back in action Tuesday, November 19th in an exhibition game in Lawton, Oklahoma against NCAA Division II Cameron University. Game time is set for 6:00 PM CST.
