Bears Drop Two in Southwest Region
Last Friday and Saturday the Bears Men’s Basketball team traveled south to take on two region opponents in Dallas Christian College (Dallas, TX) and Arlington Baptist College (Arlington, TX). Both teams were ranked in the most recent NCCAA top ten poll and lived up to their ranking.
Friday night the Bears took to the floor at Dallas Christian College with the temperature in the gym at a frigid 52 degrees and the Bears shooting seemed to be even colder than that. On the game the Bears shot 30% from the field and could not handle the Crusaders athleticism on the perimeter. Even though the Bears forced 32 turnovers, they couldn’t connect on the offensive end as the Crusaders walked away with a 105-69 win.
Saturday afternoon, the Bears found themselves up against the #2 ranked Arlington Baptist team who returned most of their team from a year ago when they made a deep run in the NCCAA tournament. Once again the Bears shot poorly from the field (36%) and were forced into 24 turnovers. The combination of the two found the Bears falling 67-105 to drop to 0-4 on the season.
Freshman Caleb Davis led the Bears in scoring both days. On Friday he went for 17 points, including 8-10 from the free thrown line and then on Saturday we connected for 15 points.
The Bears will play three games over the Thanksgiving break. At 7:00 PM CST on Tuesday, they will travel to Southwest Baptist University (Bolivar, MO) in an exhibition game against the Bearcats. Then on Friday and Saturday they will be playing in a classic in Lincoln, NE at Nebraska Wesleyan. On Friday they will take on Luther College at 5:30 PM and then on Saturday they will play Nebraska Wesleyan at 7:30 PM.
