Two Cross Country Runners Qualify for Nationals

On Saturday, September 28th, the Barclay Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams competed in their second race of the season. The event took place in Newton, KS, and was hosted by Tabor College.

The women’s 5k race came first. Lady bears’ Katrina Barber, Brandi Brown, Katelyn Ogle and Caitlin Young each ran personal record (PR) times. While all women competitors ran PR’s, Ogle was also able to qualify herself for the NCCAA Cross Country National Championships with a time of 24:18.

After all was said and done, Ogle commented on the race saying, “I felt much better than the first race. I had more energy and was able to sustain a good pace throughout.”

In the men’s 8k race, senior Skip Harris finished stronger than ever, resulting in a new PR. While missing senior Joey Spiegle in Saturday’s race, a recent addition to the team, MATL-SF student Jeremiah Williams, competed alongside Harris. As did Ogle, Williams also qualified for the NCCAA Cross Country National Championships with a time of 33:43.
When asked about his first racing experience he stated, “There’s much to learn and be done when it comes to competing in cross country, but I very much enjoyed taking part with the team.”
The Bears’ next race will be held at Fort Hays State on Saturday, October 12th. The team is thankful for all prayers and support given.
