#7 Bears Battle with #6 Crusaders

On Tuesday, October 8th #7 ranked Barclay College Men’s Soccer traveled to Manhattan, KS on a beautiful fall day to face #6 ranked Manhattan Christian College.

During the first half, Barclay was clearly in control dominating the shots on goal 8 – 2 while maintaining possession. The first half ended scoreless, but Barclay struck first in the second half. They found the back of the net off a ricocheted shot in front of the Crusader goal and freshman defender Pedro Chavez flicked it in. Barclay maintained the lead for the bulk of the game until the twenty sixth minute of the second half when senior goalie Austin Ogle went for a 50/50 ball just outside of the box and collided with an MCC player just outside of the box. A foul was called, Ogle was given a red card, and MCC was awarded a free kick which they converted into a goal. Barclay played a man down for the remaining twenty minutes of the half keeping the score tied.  The game went to golden-goal overtime (first to score wins) and with a few minutes left in the first overtime, an MCC player got tripped up and rolled into the box.  They were awarded a penalty kick which they converted into the winning goal.

Barclay College (7-3, 3-1) will play their final conference game of the season at Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, MO) on Friday, October 11. On Saturday, they head north for a match against Grace University in Omaha, NE.  The team will travel back and then head to Siete Ejidos, Mexico for a week of soccer and ministry.
