Number 8 Ranked Bears on the Road

In their first poll of the season, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America had the Bears tabbed in their top ten. The Bears were ranked number 8 with Southwest Region schools Dallas Christian (Dallas) at number 5 and Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (Moore, Okla.) at number 7. Earlier in the season the Bears lost to Dallas on the road but were able to manage a tie against Hillsdale earlier this month. In addition, two Midwest Christian College Conference schools were featured in the top 10, Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, Iowa) at number 4 and Manhattan Christian College (Manhattan, Kans.) at number 9. The Bears took their new ranking on the road this weekend for a pair of MCCC matches starting with Ozark Christian College (Joplin, Mo.).

Ozark was just outside of the top ten, and the Bears knew it would be a tough test, especially on the road and without their number one goalkeeper. The game lived up to its billing as regulation ended with the score knotted at 1-1. In overtime, however, it was the Ambassadors who were able to get the golden goal and end the Bears MCCC winning streak.

Saturday afternoon the Bears made the short jaunt north to take on Calvary Bible College (Belton, Mo.). Despite a quick turn around from a tough, physical game on Friday and shuffling their line-up to accommodate for injuries and missing personnel, the Bears were able to take care of business and leave town with a 3-1 victory.

The weekend split improved the Bears t0 3-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the MCCC as they now prep for a busy week. On Tuesday they will travel to Lindsborg, Kans. to take on NAIA Bethany College. Then on Friday they will head to Moberly, Mo. for a conference game with Central Christian College of the Bible. Their final game of the week will be Saturday in Springfield, Mo. agains Baptist Bible College. The Bears were able to beat Baptist Bible 4-0 in their opening game of the season.
