Bears Improve to 4-0 in MCCC

Saturday afternoon, the Barclay College faithful ignored the intense heat to root the Bears on to another victory, extending their winning streak to six games and remaining unbeaten in Midwest Christian College Conference play with a 2-1 win over Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO).

It was an evenly played first half with possession back and forth. The only difference was just before the half, in the 42nd minute, when Sophomore Melvin Lara (Katy, TX) received a nice through ball from Sophomore defender Pedro Chavez (Lakin, KS) and Lar rifled a shot in from just inside of 18 yards to give the Bears the lead. Trailing 0-1 following intermission, however, the Ambassadors scored the equalizer in the first minute of the second half when they connected on a shot that ricocheted in off the right goalpost. From that juncture on the Bears looked determined. In the 52nd minute, Freshman Chris Bujano (Houston, TX) crossed a beautiful ball into the box where Junior Kingsley Assibey (Accra, Ghana) powered in a header to make it 2-1 in favor of the Bears. Time and time again the Bears had opportunities to score again, but were unable to extend their lead as they held on to win 2-1.

The Bears (6-0, 4-0) will take highway 54 into Wichita, KS for a duel with NCAA Division II Newman University on Monday night. Game time is set for 7:00 PM CST.
