Bears Pounce on Patriots in Home Opener

Last week the Barclay College men’s basketball team finished the week in style. In front of the Barclay faithful, the Bears punctuated the week with an emphatic win over National Christian College Athletic Association Southwest Region foe, Baptist Bible College (Springfield, Mo.).

Coming into Saturday afternoon’s game, the Bears had maneuvered through a tough early season schedule, which had consisted of road games against three regional NAIA Division II schools. Even though they nearly pulled off the upset against Bethany College (Lindsborgh, Kans.) at a neutral site, losing by 2 points, the Bears were ready for an opponent of equal level. They came out of the gates with an exclamation point. Senior Tanner Huck (Coldwater, Kans.) won the tip and senior Jay Bradley (Wichita, Kans.) corralled and lobbed the ball to junior Jay Milton (Paris, Texas) for an emphatic dunk to start the game. From that point on, the Bears cruised to a 97-55 win over the Patriots, holding their opponent to 18 points in the second half.

The Bears shot a sizzling 60.9% from the field, including 54% from the long range. Bradley led the way in scoring with 26 points, 6-8 from three-point range. Sophomore Quinton Walker chipped in 14 points with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.

Next up for the Bears is a trip to Arkansas for a pair of games. On Thursday they will take on John Brown University in Siloam Springs at 7pm and then travel to Springdale for a game against Ecclesia College on Friday evening.
