Bears Soccer Improves to 4-0
The Barclay College Bears soccer team has given the home fans plenty to cheer about to open the 2013 season. Fresh off their OT win over Grace University the night before, they did not disappoint. On yet another blistering Saturday afternoon, the Bears stayed unbeaten (4-0) with a come from behind 2-1 victory over Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA). The game also marked the start of MCCC play for the Bears.
Eighteen minutes into the match, the Eagles of Faith worked their way through the Bears defense and found the back of the net for an early lead. However, similar to the second half the night before, the Bears dominated possession of the ball and kept Faith back on their heals most of the afternoon. Finally, after several great opportunities, a cross from Freshman Forest Turner was volleyed in by Freshman Eli Dahir to tie the game at 1-1 in the 35th minute.
Following the half, the Bears remained relentless on the offensive end. Then in the 66th minute Freshman Pedro Chavez made a run from his defensive position and made a cross that Sophomore Kingsley Assibey was able to get his head on for the goal. Assibey’s fifth goal of the season was not only the go-ahead goal but also proved to be the game winner. The win puts the Bears atop the MCCC with a 1-0 mark in conference play.
On Tuesday, the Bears will be on the road for the first time this season as they head to Winfield, KS to face NAIA Southwestern College at 6:00 PM CST.
