Lady Bears Stifle Eagles for First Win

The Barclay College Bears traveled to Ankeny, Iowa to take on their first Midwest Christian College opponents of the year this past weekend. Host school Faith Baptist Bible College played the Bears Friday night and then Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, IA) had their turn Saturday morning.

Friday night, in spite of the long bus ride, the Bears came out ready to play and jumped out to an early 16-10. Faith battled back to tie and eventually go ahead 31-23 heading into halftime. The second half start proved to be a different story. The Bears struggled to put the ball in the basket and stalled on 23 points for over 8 minutes. By the time they were able to get things going again, it was too late and Faith won the game 54-41.

Junior Shandy Edenborough (Goodwell, OK) led the Bears in scoring and rebounding with 24 and 11 while Junior RaeLyn Epp (Corn, OK) added 10 points. Senior Morgan Stander (Omaha, NE) led the team in assists with 4 and added 3 steals.

Saturday morning the Bears took on Emmaus Bible College. After a tough battle in the first half that found the Bears down 24-28, things started clicking on offense in the second half.  After several minutes of back and forth scoring, the Bears pulled away to ice the game, outscoring Emmaus 36-22 in the second half to get their first win of the season, 60-50.

The Bears were again led by Edenborough with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Epp poured in 18 points with 9 rebounds from her guard position. Senior Kaylee Kershner (Great Bend, KS) led the team in assists with 7, upping her season average to nearly 5 a game. Senior Katelyn Ogle (Haviland, KS) put in quality minutes off the bench with some solid defense and 2 assists.

The Bears play Panhandle State University (Goodwell, OK) in an exhibition game this Tuesday night. Game time is 5:00 PM CST.
