Men’s Basketball Concludes 2013-14 Season

Dallas Christian College (Dallas, TX) hosted this years NCCAA Division II Southwest Region Tournament in which the Bears were the 5th seed. They faced Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO) for the fourth time. In the three previous meetings, the Ambassadors were able to come away victorious every time but in their final two matches, the Bears had narrowed the gap and looked to have a chance at an opening round upset.

The Ambassadors came out in their usual 2-2-1 press but gave the Bears a new look by falling back into a 2-3 zone. This new look proved to be a great switch as the Bears turned the ball over with great regularity in the half court. By the midway point, the Bears had already committed 18 turnovers and had dug themselves into a deep hole, trailing 24-49. Unfortunately, the Bears could not alter the course of the game, as the Ambassadors forced another 14 turnovers in the second half to easily win 85-52.

The loss officially ended the Bears 2013-14 campaign. They ended the season 3-21 overall and 3-6 in MCCC play.

Head Coach Royce Bryan concluded,”Losing isn’t fun and it will never be fun. I feel bad that our seniors had to end their basketball careers on a note like that but am very proud of the growth that I have seen in them while they have been in the program and the men they have become. Many valuable lessons were learned by all people involved with the program this year and I am excited to see what fruit comes from it in the days to come.”
