Mens Basketball Team Partners with Local Grade School

Haviland, KS – For the third year in a row, the Barclay College Men’s Basketball program has partnered with USD 474 to make a positive impact on the youth of our community. It was the second year in a row in which members of the team took part in a reading initiative at Haviland Grade School.

From March 5th-7th Senior Toney Hatton, Sophomores Spencer Huiatt and Tommy Leach, and coaches Royce Bryan and Ray Anderson took time to read books to students at the elementary school in Haviland. From Dr. Seuss to Skippyjon Jones books, a good time was had by all as students were encouraged to become life-long readers.

Haviland Elementary 1st grade teacher Joyce Bryan concluded, “The kids love it! It really encourages the kids to read more when they see people they look up to having fun reading. They think so highly of the college kids, especially those that play sports, that reading become way more appealing.”
