Soccer Starts 2012 Season in Style

Omaha, NE – The Barclay College Men’s Soccer team traveled to Grace University (Omaha, NE) on Tuesday with a new roster and many unknowns but walked away with a 2-1 victory.

The Bears started off the scoring in the first half by a throw-in assist from Freshman Mauro Villanueva (Lions, KS) to Freshman Eduardo Salazar (Huntsville, TX). Later in the half, Freshman Alec Stivender (Huntsville, TX) played a long cross to the feet of Salazar for his second goal of the match and 2-0 halftime lead on the road.

“First college game and scoring two goals. It felt great,” exclaimed Salazar.

On the defensive side, All-American goalie Junior Austin Ogle (Hutchinson, KS) put in yet another stellar performance with 17 saves.

Second year Head Coach Kevin Lee added, “We feel glad to have our first game and win in the books. Grace is a solid team and so we are glad to have passed this first test. We were pleased by the effort and contributions from the entire team.”

The Bears (1-0, 0-0) home opener happens to be the first MCCC conference match. The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 1st at 2:00 PM CST against Ozark Christian.
