Volleyball Completes MCCC and Region Play

This last weekend, the Barclay College volleyball team hosted Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA) and Dallas Christian College (Dallas, TX) for their final two matches before heading into fall break.

Friday night Faith Baptist Bible College was in town for the Bears final regular season Midwest Christian College Conference match. The Eagles jumped out early with flawless play to take the first set 25-8. In the second set, the Bears found themselves with another early deficit, but with some strong hitting  the Bears roared back to within one only to drop the set 20-25. The tables switched in the third set as the Bears jumped out to a 7-0 lead behind Senior Hannah William’s serving which included two aces. The Eagles, however, were able to put together a run of their own to win the set 25-19.

Offensively, Williams led the Bears with eight kills while Senior Sarah Sullivan added another six. Defensively, Sophomore Raelyn Epp had 12 digs and Junior Morgan Stander had nine.

Saturday afternoon, Dallas Christian College was in town for the Bears final NCCAA Southwest Region game before postseason play. From the beginning, the Bears came ready to play behind the power hitting of Sullivan. Action was back and forth the whole afternoon, but the Bears just could not finish a set off, losing in straight sets 18-25, 20-25, and 20-25.

Sullivan, who has been leading the SW Region with 3.0 kills per set, compiled another 14 kills on the afternoon, and Williams chipped in another eight. Junior setters Dani Gressel and Kalyn Switzer had 14 assists apiece while Stander led the Bear defensively with 17 digs. In addition, Williams, Epp, and Gressel had 14 digs apiece.

The Bears will have one last tune up, at home against Central Christian College (McPherson, KS) on Tuesday, October 22nd, before heading to Belton, MO for the MCCC Tournament hosted by Calvary Bible College.
