Another Strong Showing for Bears Soccer
On Tuesday, September 10 the Barclay Bears soccer team traveled to Winfield, KS to take on NAIA Division II, Southwestern College. Southwestern College Moundbuilders went into the match with a 3 – 1 record, while the Barclay Bears were off to a 4 – 0 start. Even though the outcome wasn’t quite what the Bears were looking for, it was another strong showing early in the season.
After a scoreless first half, Southwestern capitalized first. They snuck in a grounder from the corner area at the 54 minute mark, which spun in just behind the Bears defense and into the back corner of the net. Then at the 80th minute of the game, the Moundbuilders final score came from a miscue on an offsides trap, giving Southwestern their second and final score of the match. In spite of the deep Southwestern bench, the Bears played very competitively and will utilize the 2-0 loss as a learning opportunity.
The Bears (4-1, 1-0) head to Dallas Christian (Dallas, TX) for an NCCAA Division II Southwest region game. Game time is set for 5:30 PM CST.
