BC Volleyball Ends 2012 Season with Win

The ACCA National Tournament kicked off on November 1st with a banquet prior to competitions into the weekend. The Barclay Bear Volleyball team finished out their season facing some familiar opponents at the tournament in Hillsdale Freewill Baptist, Central Christian College of the Bible (CCCB), Arlington Baptist and Champion Baptist.

 

In pool play the faced off against Hillsdale Freewill Baptist first. The Saints were able to win 13-25, 17-25 and 15-25. The Bears next opponent was the Patriots of Arlington Baptist. The Patriots proved too much for the Bears as well and won 11-25, 18-25 and 17-25. Arlington Baptist would go on to win the 2012 ACCA National Tournament on Saturday afternoon. In their last game of pool play, the Bears went head to head with CCCB for the third time in less than month. Both prior matches went to five with each team winning a match. This time around the Saints would win in 4 sets 25-8, 25-27, 25-19 and 25-23. Saturday morning the Bears found themselves facing Champion Baptist in the consolation game for seventh place in the tournament. The Bears came out ready to play and beat Champion in 3 sets 25-20, 25-15 and 25-16 to finish the season on a positive note.

 

Offensively Junior Sarah Sullivan led the team in the tournament with 31 kills and 7 blocks. While Senior Katie Cruse finished with 17 kills and 4 blocks. Sophomore Megan Eby added 17 kills, 10 blocks and 6 aces. Freshman Sharese Mulliken contributed with 15 kills, 3 blocks and 9 aces. Freshman Lauren Wells had 5 aces. Defensively the Bears were led by Sophomore Dani Gressel with 45 digs while freshman Courtney Gillaspy added 32 digs. Sophomore Kalyn Switzer finished with 76 assists on the weekend and 31 digs.

At the banquet Cruse and Sullivan were recognized for the efforts. Cruse was named an Academic All- American while Sullivan was voted to onto the ACCA 2nd Team.
