Another Buzzer Beater for BC Mens Hoops

Manhattan, KS – Two weeks prior the BC Men’s Basketball Team hit a last second shot in their first regular season game of the year to beat Rhema Bible Training College 118-117 and then on Tuesday, November 27th, the Bears were able to make it happen again, this time on the road to beat Manhattan Christian College 78-77.

It was neck and neck through the early stages of the first half. The Bears seemed to be in control but the Crusaders of Manhattan were able to make a late surge to take the lead 34-33 at the halfway point.

In the second half, the Bears came out with energy and built a double digit lead with scrappy defense and strong interior play on offense. The Crusaders, however, once again closed the gap late in the game and after Senior Toney Hatton hit on one of his two free throws to give the Bears a one point lead, the Crusaders transitioned quickly. They attacked the basket and were able to make a lay-up with only five seconds left to give them a one point edge. This time Sophomore Charles Brodhead in-bounded up the sideline to a streaking Tanner Stevens who attacked the basket but missed the lay-up but Brodhead was there for two of his 18 points to tip it in as the buzzer sounded to give the Bears a huge MCCC road win.

“I am very proud of our guys efforts and their perseverance to stick with it,” said Head Coach Royce Bryan. “We will continue to grow as a team, and get better at end of game situations so that I don’t die young with all these nail-bitters.”

Senior post players Hatton and Shane Brown controlled the paint. Hatton scored 25 points on 7-9 shooting and led the Bears on the boards with 8 while Brown chipped in another 12 points on 5-8 shooting. The Bears shot 55% from the field on the game.

The Bears (4-0, 3-0) are back in action this weekend at Hockett Auditorium on the campus of Barclay College. On Friday they will host Grace University (Omaha, NE) at 7:30 PM CST and on Saturday they will face NCCAA Southwest Region opponent Dallas Christian at 6:00 PM.
