Bears Claim 2nd in MCCC Regular Season

Over the past three years, the Bears have finished no worse than second place in the Midwest Christian College Conference regular season or tournament. This year the Bears started 0-2 in MCCC play before finishing 6-1 to steal the runner-up finish. The Bears entered this last weekend in third place and with the potential to slide to fourth without a clean sweep of Calvary University (Belton, Mo.) and Ozark Christian College (Joplin, Mo.).  In the end, the Bears did their share while Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, Iowa) came up short in their final road MCCC game.

Friday night, the Warriors of Calvary were in town for homecoming. Just two week prior, the Bears were able to sneak out of Belton with a huge road win. This time around the Bears seemed in control from the tip-off to the final horn. They built a 15 point halftime advantage and then proceeded to jump on the Warriors to start the second half. The 98-77 win for the Bears, coupled with Faith Baptist’s loss at Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, Mo.) that same night moved the Bears into sole possession of second place with just one game left.

With a lot on the line, Ozark Christian would not be taken lightly by the Bears. Led by their four seniors, the Bears were dialed in on Senior Day. They connected on 50% of their shots in both the first and second half to come away with a 113-96 win to conclude their regular season. Three of the fours seniors finished in double figures, led by Jay Bradley’s (Wichita, Kans.) 27 points and Tanner Huck’s (Coldwater, Kans.) 20 points.

Next up for the Bears is a re-match with Ozark Christian Thursday afternoon in the MCCC Tournament hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College.
