Bears Conclude Regular Season

The Barclay College Bears Men’s Basketball team concluded its regular season this last week with their last home game on Tuesday, February 11th against Manhattan Christian College (Manhattan, KS) and then a pair of road games at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist (Moore, OK) and at Grace University (Omaha, NE) over the weekend.

Saturday afternoon the Bears traveled to Omaha, NE for what will probably be the last time the Bears will take on Grace University since the Royals will be transitioning into NAIA Division II. Out of the gate the Bears connected on their first couple of shots to put the Royals on their heals and then kept the game within reach at 20-27 with just over 8 minutes left in the first half. However, that was when Grace hit a barrage of threes to ignite a 19-2 run to close the half. Even though the Bears outscored the Royals in the second half, the Bears could not compete with unbelievable 61% shooting from behind the arc as the Royals put the game out of reach early in the half.

Last Thursday afternoon, the Bears played their last Southwest Region game of the year against Hillsdale Free Will Baptist. The game was originally schedule for early February but was rescheduled because of the weather. The Saints started the game on an 18-0 run before the Bears finally connected from the field. Seconds before the half, the Bears only trailed by 12, but the Saints sank a three at the buzzer to extend the lead to 15. The Bears would once again close the lead to 12 several minutes into the second half, only to see Hillsdale extend the lead back to twenty where it remained. The Saints would win 85-60.

Senior night was Tuesday, February 11th for the Bears as they honored Seniors Austin Ogle, Tyler Mullikin, and Pilo Miranda-Troup. Manhattan looked to remain undefeated in the MCCC with a tough road test. Earlier in the year the Bears fell to the Crusaders on the road by just ten. This time around Manhattan took advantage of the Bears 28% first half shooting from the field to build a 13 point lead. Once again, a Bears opponent got hot from behind the arc as the Crusaders connected on an unheard of 62% of their shots from behind the arc to win 93-68.

Post Season play begins on Thursday afternoon for the Bears on the campus of Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, MO. #3 Ozark Christian College will be the Bears first round opponent and game time is schedule for 12:00 PM CST.
