Bears Late Rally Falls Short

Tuesday night the Barclay College Men’s Basketball team made their first appearance in front of the home fans. They were coming off two exhibition games against Wayland Baptist University (Plainview, TX) over the weekend and were ready for their first NCCAA Division II opponent, Dallas Christian College (Dallas, TX). It was not only the Bears home opener, but it was also their first Southwest Region game of the season.

It was a game of runs. The Crusaders would capitalize on some missed opportunities and turnovers by the Bears only to see the Bears force some turnovers of their own and jump right back in the game. Eventually the Bears found themselves with a double digit deficit, but thanks to the hot shooing off Freshman David Greer (Greenwood, IN), who connected on 4 of 5 threes in the first half, the Bears stayed within striking distance at half, 45-58. The Bears came out for the second half poised and ready. They would eventually cut the lead to four points with just under six minutes left in the game before some untimely fouls and turnovers doomed them. The final score was 110-100 in favor of Dallas Christian.

The Bears were led by Junior Charles Brodhead (Lompoc, CA) with 23 points. In addition Sophomore Andre Barnes (Conroe, TX) had 17 points and 5 rebounds, and both Greer and Senior Tony Graham (Baltimore, MD) had 12 points apiece. Freshman Jay Milton (Paris, TX) pulled down 7 rebounds and Sophomore point guard Cole Hibler (Ponca City, OK) dished out 7 assists.

This weekend the Bears (0-2, 0-0) head north to Ankeny, IA to take on two Midwest Christian College Conference opponents. Friday they play host Faith Baptist Bible College and then they will play Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, IA) on Saturday. Both games will be played on the campus of Faith Baptist Bible College.
