Slow Start Dooms Lady Bears

Barclay College’s women’s basketball hosted Dallas Christian College (Dallas, TX) for their first home game of the season Tuesday night. The Crusaders were not only the first home game but also the first NCCAA Division II Southwest Region game for the Bears.

Another shaky start mixed in with some early foul trouble plagued the Bears once again. With two starters on the bench in foul trouble, the Bears struggled with the Crusader’s full court pressure and only managed 19 first half points finding in route to a 19-34 halftime deficit. However, the second 20 minutes proved different for the Bears as they came out and got off twice as many shots than in the first half. Although they outscored Dallas by 5 points in the second half, they still came up short and lost 54-64.

Junior Shandy Edenborough (Goodwell, OK) led the Bears with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Junior RaeLyn Epp (Corn, OK) was the only other Bear in double figures with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Senior Morgan Stander (Omaha, NE) and Senior Clara Konsky (O’Fallon, MO) both totaled 8 rebounds as well. Senior Kaylee Kershner (Great Bend, KS) paced the Bears with 5 assists.

The Bears (02, 0-0) travel to Ankeny, Iowa this weekend for their first two Midwest Christian College Conference games to take on Faith Baptist Bible College on Friday and Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, IA) on Saturday.
