Bears Prep for MCCC Opener

Following the Barclay College men’s basketball team’s upset over #1 ranked Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (Moore, Okla.) Tuesday, Nov. 24, the Bears jumped into the rankings as well. The most recent poles had the Bears ranked #10. In fact, all four Southwest Region teams were ranked in the top ten as well as two Midwest Christian College Conference opponents.

With the Bears new ranking, they traveled to Winfield, Kans. on Tuesday evening to take on NAIA Division II Southwestern College. The 8-1 Moundbuilders have proved to be a force to be reckoned with this season, especially on their home court. They wasted very little time exerting their prowess over the Bears by taking full of advantage of the Bears 31% first half field goal percentage. To make matters worse, the Bears yielded 43 points in the paint to find themselves trailing 30-66 at the half. The second twenty minutes was a different story, however. The Bears outplayed the Moundbuilders in the second half, outscoring them 44-38 despite shooting 15 less free throws on the game and getting beat on the class by 26. The final score was 104-74 Southwestern.

Junior Jay Bradley Jr. (Wichita, Kans.) led the Bears with 14 points while senior Charles Brodhead (Lompoc. Calif.) and sophomore Quinton Walker (Paris, Texas) chipped in 12 points apiece.

This weekend the Bears travel to St. Louis to take on St. Louis Christian College on Friday evening. Game time is set for 6:30 pm. Then on Saturday afternoon the Bears will take on Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, Mo.). It will be the Bears first two MCCC games and their last two games before Christmas break.
