Bears Soccer Lands Four All-Region Players

Last weekend Barclay College hosted the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II Southwest Region Tournament. Friday afternoon #2 Dallas Christian College (Dallas, TX) and #3 Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO) faced off in an overtime thriller won by Dallas Christian’s golden goal in the first overtime period. Then that evening the second semi-final match, which featured #1 Barclay College and #4 Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (Moore, OK), saw the Bears 4-0 victory under the lights set up a region finale between the Bears and the Crusaders Saturday afternoon.

Saturday morning all of the region teams gathered for an awards banquet and brunch hosted by Barclay College Food Services under the direction of Jeannie Ross. The morning agenda consisted of a brief welcome by the Athletics Department of Barclay College, an opening prayer from faculty member Dave Kingrey, a short devotional from Athletic Director Royce Bryan, an overview of the Operation Christmas Child Christian Service Project from Region Chair and Barclay College Head Men’s Soccer Coach Kevin Lee, and then the presentation of the All-Southwest Region Team.

Among the winners of the All-SW Region Team were four Barclay College players. Freshman Goalie David Hernandez (Atascadero, CA), Freshman Defensive Back Isaiah Shine (Katy, TX), Freshman Midfielder Josh Moore (Houston, TX) and Junior Forward Kingsley Assibey (Accra, Ghana) were all recognized for their achievements during region play. In addition, Lee was named Coach of the Year for the region for the first time.
