Haviland, KS – The Barclay College Volleyball team will go into the MCCC Tournament on a two game conference winning streak after sweeping St. Louis Christian College (Florissant, MO) and beating Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, MO) in a five-set thriller over the weekend.

On Friday night, the Bears dominated St. Louis Christian from the get go, winning the first set 25-6, the second set 25-8 and the third set 25-10. Senior Katie Cruse (San Dimas, CA) led the way with 11 kills.

In the Bears final home regular season match, the Bears lone senior, Cruse, was honored prior to the start of their match against the Saints of CCCB. The Saints struck first and won the first set easily, 25-13, but the Bears responded in the second set with their own 25-13 set. In the third set, the action tightened up as the Bears dropped the set 25-19 only to respond in the fourth set 25-19 to force the Saints into a fifth and final set. It was the Bears first five set match of the season. CCCB came out on a mission and grabbed an early 10-1 lead before the Bears countered with a 9-0 run of their own behind the serving of Sophomore Danielle Gressel (South Haven, KS). With the score knotted up at 10, it was back and fourth before the Bears mustered up some huge plays to stay alive. Junior Sarah Sullivan (San Antonio, TX) had two blocks in the pivotal stretch while Sophomore Kalyn Switzer (Weatherford, OK) kept the ball alive with her digging. Trailing 16-15, the Bears had a sideout and then served two straight points to seal the victory.
