Soccer Concludes Regular Season On Top

Haviland, KS – Bears Soccer concluded their 2012 regular season with a conference win over Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, MO) and a tie against Grace University (Omaha, NE).

On a misty Friday night under the lights, the Bears were running on all cylinders. Freshman Eduardo Salazar (Huntsville, TX) sliced through the Saint defense twice in the first half to give the Bears a 2-0 halftime lead and they would never look back. Sophomore Josh Sanchez (Magee, MS) added one more goal to the total as the Bears finished their MCCC regular season schedule with a solid win.

The Grace University Royals came to town Saturday afternoon for the Bears last regular season game. Even though the Bears were able to beat the Royals 2-1 in Omaha in the season opener back on August 28th, it was a very close game. This game was no different. Possession and shots on goal were fairly even as the two teams went into half knotted up at 0-0. The second half saw much of the same. Freshman Justin Segura (Chino Hills, CA) had one strike on goal from well outside the box that looked like it had a chance to ricochet off the back post, but the Royal’s keeper got a finger on it to make sure the score stayed even, and it did, even through two overtime periods.

The Bears (7-6-1, 3-3) will be the #4 seed in the MCCC Tournament in Manhattan, KS. They will open up against Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA) at 10:00 AM CST on Thursday. The Bears defeated FBBC at Ankeny 2-1 in overtime earlier in the season.
