Bears Volleyball Hangs Tough Against Hillsdale

On Tuesday night, September 3rd, the Lady Bears found themselves facing their first NCCAA Division II Southwest Region opponent, the Saints of Hillsdale Free Will Baptist (Moore, OK).  The Bears entered the contest after a tough loss over the weekend to the hands of Calvary Bible and both teams were hungry for a victory.

As the first set got under way, the Saints jumped out to an early lead behind the serving of Hannah Horner and the Bears could never crawl back into the set, losing 15-25. After some adjustments, the second set included multiple long rallies and good all-around volleyball, but found the Bears coming up short again, 20-25. Continuing with the momentum built in the second set, the Bears took the lead in the third set and fought off the Saints rally to win 25-22. As the forth set got under way, the Bears simply ran out steam losing 9-25.

The Bears were lead again by the dynamic senior duo of Sarah Sullivan and Hannah Williams, who combined for 15 kills and 6 blocks. Junior setters Dani Gressel and Kalyn Switzer contributed 13 assist while Sophomore RaeLyn Epp added 16 digs on defense. The Bears had an impressive serving game, only missing three out of 67 serves.

The Barclay Bears (0-3, 0-1) will be in action against two more Southwest Region opponents this weekend. First, they will travel to Arlington, TX to face the defending ACCA Champs from Arlington Baptist on Friday, September the 5th at 8:00 PM CST. Next, they will play Dallas Christian College (Dallas, TX) on Saturday at 1:00 PM CST.
