Brodhead Takes Over as BC Athletic Director

Last Friday Barclay College named Charles Brodhead as the next athletic director and head men’s basketball coach for the Bears. Brodhead is no stranger to Barclay College. He first came to BC in 2011 as a non-traditional student, played four years of basketball under former head coach Royce Bryan, one year of soccer, and also served an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team this last season while he completed his undergraduate studies in Sports Ministry.

“I feel like it is a great opportunity to work in a Christian environment and further my knowledge in sports,” Brodhead remarked.  “I’m just excited to work with college athletes and to assist them in their athletic pursuits and aspirations.”

During Brodhead’s tenure at BC as a member of the basketball team, he was instrumental in the teams’ successes on and off the court. The Bears finished as Midwest Christian College Conference regular season runner-ups in both 2012-13 and 2014-15. In 2015-16 he helped lead the Bears to an MCCC regular season championship. In addition, the Bears finished as tournament runner-ups in 2015 and 2016. Brodhead is the all-time BC record holder in points scored (2380), made field goals (812), made three pointers (174), made free throws (582), steals (260), and second in assists (435).

Bryan concluded, “I’m extremely excited for Charles to get this opportunity. It’s comforting to know the program will be in the hands of one of my former players who will pour his heart, mind and soul into making a difference in the lives of student-athletes at Barclay College. It was a honor to coach him, to coach with him, and now it will be fun to see him take on this new challenge.”

Brodhead is married to current Barclay College Admissions Assistant Shandy Brodhead.
