Fall Sports Gear Up for 2013

On August 10th, many of our Fall athletes will begin arriving on campus to begin training for their 2013 seasons. It will be a week of skills, conditioning, and team building as they construct a foundation for what’s to come.

Cross Country is up and running again! Wendy Williams will be leading the men’s and women’s teams while Brad Lingafelter will assist her. Williams brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program from her days at Black Hills State University (Spearfish, S.D.). Both teams will run at the Wichita Winds Festival on September 7th, the Tabor Invitational (Hillsboro, KS) September 21st, Fort Hays St. Tiger Open (Victoria, KS) October 12th, Run For Missions (Haviland, KS) October 26th and, if they qualify, at the NCCAA National Meet (Cedarville, OH) November 16th.

Head Coach Kevin Lee enters his third season at the helm of the Men’s Soccer Team. Steve Davis will also be in his third season as an assistant coach while former Bears Soccer standout Eliot Hinshaw comes on board the coaching staff as well. Last season, the Bears enjoyed a ton of success in route to a .500 season. This season they return Senior captain and defender Pilo Miranda-Troup while they also acquired the talents of several promising recruits. Those recruits include incoming Freshman Pedro Chavez (Lakin, KS), John Forrest Turner (Huntsville, TX), Melvin Lara (Katy, TX) and Idle Dahir (Murray, UT). Their 2013 campaign begins with a home match Saturday, August 31st against Calvary Bible College (Belton, MO) at 2:00 PM CST.

The women’s volleyball team will be led by second year Head Coach Shari Bryan and assisted by Barclay College adjunct business professor Kayleen Stevens. After a rebuilding 2012 season, the Bears return most of their roster including their Senior All-American Sarah Sullivan. In addition, Senior Hannah Williams and Junior Morgan Stander will add some much needed depth. The Bears open their season on the road against NAIA Southwestern Christian in Bethany, OK on Tuesday, August 27th and then will host MCCC rival Calvary Bible College on Friday, August 30th.

Excitedly this year the Athletics Department is hoping to get most contests streamed live on the internet so that Bears fans across the globe can stay connected.
