Lady Bears Go 1-1 on Road Trip
The Barclay Lady Bears made their annual trip to play MCCC conference opponents Calvary Bible College and Ozark Christian on the 18th and 19th of January.
On Friday the 18th, Barclay took on the Warriors of Calvary in Kansas City, MO and the two teams played a great game. Even though the Bears had multiple opportunities to jump ahead, missed lay-ups and a 5-18 performance from the free throw line allowed Calvary to hold off the Lady Bears, 54-51. The Bears were led in scoring by Jamie Larsh with 13 points.
Following the game, Head Coach Brad Lingafelter said, “That was a great game. Both teams competed hard for 40 minutes and they were three points better than us. We did a few things to shoot ourselves in the foot, but, Coach Shoemaker and Calvary deserved that win.”
After a short trip down to Joplin, MO the ladies played Ozark Christian. Barclay was able to ride a phenomenal shooting performance by Jamie Larsh in the first half to keep the game close, trailing 33-29 at halftime. After the break the Lady Bears took control early and led most of the second half in route to a 65-61 victory.
“Jamie really saved us in the first half. We were struggling shooting as a team, except for Jamie. She kept us close and then we really picked it up as a team,” Lingafelter concluded. “I also feel Kaylee Miller deserves a lot of praise. She had 13 points and 14 rebounds, but where she really shines is on defense. She started out guarding the point guard and finished the game guarding Ozark’s 6’2″ center. She was awesome!!”
Larsh led the way with 24 points and her seven three pointers tied the school record.
