Lady Bears Notch First MCCC Win

The Barclay Lady Bears traveled to Omaha, NE on Friday, November 16th to play the Lady Royals of Grace University and then were in Ankeny, IA to face Faith Baptist Bible College Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bears started out great, scoring the first seven points, and playing very strong but then went through a rough stretch to find themselves down seven. To close the half, they were able to bounce back and head into halftime down 25-20. However, in the second half, the Lady Royals were the ones who came out quickly as they pulled away for a 52-26 win. Sophomore Jamie Larsh (Haviland, KS) led the Lady Bears in scoring with 10 and Freshman Shandy Edenborough (Goodwell, OK) continued her strong play with 8 points and 9 rebounds.

“The results of this game fall squarely on my shoulders,” offered Coach Lingafelter. “I went in at halftime and simply over-coached. We have talent on this team and I should have just let them go out and make plays.”

The following afternoon, the Bears were back at it against the newest member of the MCCC, Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA). Once again the Bears jumped out to an early lead, but this time around they were able to maintain their momentum. They went into the half with a double digit lead due largely to their stifling full-court defensive pressure and great ball movement offensively. The Bears earned their first victory of the year 61-39. Senior Kaylee Miller (Great Bend, KS) led the Bears with 15 points while Edenborough added another 12 points and 7 rebounds.

On Tuesday, November 27th, the Bears (1-2, 1-0) head to Manhattan Christian College (Manhattan, KS) for another MCCC game at 5:30 PM CST.
