Soccer Comes up Short in Home Opener

Haviland, KS – As the afternoon temperatures reached triple digits, the Barclay College Men’s Soccer team went head to head with MCCC conference foe and NCCAA Southwest Region foe, Ozark Christian (Joplin, MO). It was the Bears first conference game of the season and it couldn’t have come on a hotter day as they fell 3-1.

Even though the Ambassadors of Ozark Christian controlled ball possession in the first half, the Bears had several opportunities to put points on the board but came away empty handed. At the half, the score remained 0-0. Roughly fifteen minutes into the second half, the Ambassadors struck first and then added two more goals before Fr., Justin Segura (Chino Hills, CA) scored on a lazer of a shot from near the 18 yard box in the final 10 minutes of the game.

“It was a hard fought game and we saw a lot of improvement from a lot of guys,” said Assistant Coach Marc Compton. “I truly believe the improvement we saw today will translate into future success.”

The Bears (1-1, 0-1) will be back on the pitch Tuesday, September 4th at 7:00 PM CST against another NCCAA Southwest Region opponent, Hillsdale Freewill Baptist (Moore, OK). The home game will be the Bears first ever under the lights.
