Bears Soccer Victorious Under the Lights

Haviland, KS – The Bears first ever home soccer game under the lights was a victorious one and in grand fashion. With a boisterous crowd on hand, the Bears led by Sr. Rusty Eadie’s (Manton, MI) two goals overcame an early deficit and dispatched the Saints of Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College 3-1.

“That was one of the best crowds we’ve ever had,” exclaimed Eadie. “It was a blast.”

Even though the Saints were the first on the scoreboard off a deflection, the Bears kept their poise. They evened the score moments later when Fr. Justin Segura (Chino Hills) crossed it in and Eadie placed the ball high into the back of the net with a “SportsCenter Top 10” worthy header.

With the halftime score knotted up at one apiece, the Bears came out of the half and continued a relentless attack on goal, out shooting the Saints 22-9 on the game. Ten minutes into the second half, Segura sliced to the back post for an easy volley to give the Bears their first lead, and they never looked back. Time and time again goalkeeper Jr. Austin Ogle (Hutchinson, KS) made save after save and then Eadie struck again later in the half to put the game away.

Eadie aslo commented, “I thank God for revealing to us what we are capable of and knowing we can do more. This is something we can build on for the rest of the year.”

The Bears are next in action this weekend in two MCCC games. On Friday September 7th they will travel to Kansas City, MO to play Calvary Bible College at 4:00 PM CST and then to Ankeny, IA for a match against Faith Baptist on Saturday, September 8th at 1:00 PM CST.
