Soccer Earns Weekend Sweep
Kansas City, MO/Ankeny, IA – Coming off a monumental win over Hillsdale Free Will Baptist earlier in the week, the BC Bears Soccer team rode that momentum to two more victories this weekend.
The Bears opened up Friday on a rainy day in Kansas City against Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, IA). BC struck first when Senior Joshua Sanchez (Magee, MS) assisted Freshman Eduardo Salazar (Huntsville, TX). Minutes later, Emmaus evened the score but BC went on to score four more goals before the half. The second half saw the Bears tack on three more goals and run away with a 7-1 victory. Salazar finished the game with four goals while Senior Rusty Eadie (Manton, MI), Freshman Justin Segura (Chino Hills, CA), and Freshman Mauro Villanueva (Lyons, KS) were also able to find the back of the net.
With the team beginning to gel, they headed to Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA) for their second MCCC game of the season. Assisted by Segura, Salazar had the winning goal in overtime to seal the deal for the Bears. Segura also had a goal in the opening minute of the game.
Defensive specialist Senior Sammy Sanders (Haviland, KS) said, “We found a way to win. We played through some adversity and came together to play as a team.”
Salazar and Segura lead the Bears on the season with seven and four goals respectively.
The Bears (4-1, 1-1) will be back on the pitch this coming Tuesday, September 11th against MCCC favorite Manhattan Christian College (Manhattan, KS) at 4:00 PM CST.
