BC Volleyball Splits Weekend Matches

Kansas City, MO – The Barclay College Volleyball team competed in a Saturday triangular against Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, IA) and MCCC opponent Calvary Bible College (Kansas City, MO), and walked away with a split.

The Warriors of Calvary Bible College were first up for the Bears and the first conference match of the season as well. The Bears waisted no time establishing themselves as the aggressor winning the opening set 25-19. In the second set, down four half way through the set, the Bears found a way to not only take that set 25-22 but carry the momentum into the third and win in straight sets, 25-20.

“Our front row players stepped up and played really well. It allowed us to be on the offensive for most of the morning, ” commented Head Coach Shari Bryan. Junior Sarah Sullivan (San Antonio, TX) led the way with 14 kills while middle blocker Sophomore Megan Eby (Arlington, WA), had three blocks and six kills.

Immediately following the victory over Calvary Bible, the Bears were back at it against the Emmaus Bible College Eagles. The Eagles were able to capitalize on the Bears fatigued legs in opening set, winning 25-15. However, in the second set with the match tied at 23 all, the Bears found themselves on the wrong side of a questionable call and dropped the set 23-25. Even though the Bears were able to bounce back and take the third set 25-17, the Eagles controlled the fourth set winning 25-11 going away. Once again Eby and Sullivan led the way with 11 and 10 kills. Freshman Lauren Wells (Halstead, KS) had 13 digs and Sophomore Kalyn Switzer (Weatherford, OK) had 22 assists.

Next up for the Bears (3-3, 1-0) is a date with NCCAA #3 ranked Manhattan Christian College (Manhattan, KS). The MCCC match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 PM CST.
