Sullivan, Williams Recognized in VB Conclusion

The Lady Bears Volleyball team finished off their season this past weekend after dropping their first two matches in the NCCAA Southwest Region Tournament hosted by Arlington Baptist College (Arlington, TX).

Barclay went into the tournament as the 5th seed and found themselves in the opening game Friday morning against #4 Dallas Christian College (Dallas, TX). As the Lady Bears took the court for the third time this season against the Crusaders, they were hoping for a different outcome than the previous two matches. However, the Crusaders proved to be too much and jumped out to win the first two sets quickly, 15-25 and 11-25. The Bears were able to rally a little in the third behind Senior hitters Sarah Sullivan and Hannah Williams, but fell short and lost 19-25 in the third.

Later that day, the Bears would face the #2 seeded Saints of Hillsdale Baptist, who had been beaten by #3 seed Arlington Baptist earlier that day, to keep their season going. The Lady Bears jumped out to an early lead behind William’s serving, and kept the pressure on the Saints. The lead went back and forth before the Bears dropped the set 21-25. The next two sets were played well by both sides with long volleys and hard hits, but the Saints would be the ones who would be victorious, winning the last two sets 16-25 and 11-25. The loss eliminated the Bears from further post season play and ended their 2013 season.

The Lady Bears had two ladies recognized by the Southwest Region. Sullivan was awarded to the NCCAA Southwest Region First Team for the second year in a row, while Williams was named Honorable Mention for her contributions.
