Volleyball Drops Tough MCCC Tournament Opener

Friday morning the Barclay College Bears volleyball team found themselves in yet another dog fight with the Warriors of Calvary Bible College, this time in the first round of the Midwest Christian College Conference.

The 5th seeded Bears jumped out to an early lead until the Warriors narrowed the gap as the set progressed. Unfortunately, the Bears could not capitalize on a couple of set points as the Warriors took set one 27-25. In the second set, the Bears again found themselves with multiple set point opportunities before the Warriors squeaked out the marathon set 32-30. Up two sets, the Warriors’ momentum allowed them to build a substantial third set lead but the Bears made one last comeback. Even though they managed to narrow the lead from 17-23 to 22-24, they didn’t have enough in the tank. The loss was the Bears third loss to Calvary Bible this season.

“They just had our number this year,” said Head Coach Shari Bryan. “We did a lot of things well but were unable to take advantage of any of those set points we had to finish off a set.”

The Bears are back at it Saturday morning in a consolation match at 10:00 AM CST against Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, MO). Back in September, the Bears went on the road and won an exciting five set match against Central Christian. This consolation match will be played at Calvary Bible College.

On a more positive note, Friday afternoon Senior Sarah Sullivan was recognized as a 2nd team all-conference player.
