Volleyball Hangs Tough in Southwest Regional Action

Moore, OK – The Lady Bears Volleyball team went into the NCCAA Southwest Regional as the #4 seed and faced off against host college and top seed Hillsdale Free Will Baptist on Friday, October 26th.

Hillsdale was able to take the first set 25-14 thanks to stellar serving from NCCAA Division II ace leader, Hannah Horner. In the second set the Bears came out with new found energy. It was back and forth action, with the Bears leading most of the way, but again fell short 23-25. In the third set, it was again close until the Saints finally pulled away to seal the set and match 25-15.

In the Bear’s second match of the double elimination tournament, they went up against a familiar MCCC foe, Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO). The Ambassadors were coming off an emotional five set loss themselves but took the first set 25-10. That set was a wake-up call as the Bears bounced back and played even before dropping the set 21-25. The third set was much like the second set and the Ambassadors finished off the Bears the 25-18.

“I was so proud of how our girls played. We were shorthanded and they made the most out of the situation at hand.” said Head Coach Shari Bryan.

The Bears (5-16, 3-6) will face the Saints of Hillsdale in pool play at the ACCA National Tournament in Joplin, MO on Thursday, November 1st at 2:00 PM CST.
