Bears Finish With 9-1 Home Record

Haviland, KS – On Senior night for Shane Brown and Toney Hatton, the Bears were able to come away victorious against the Central Bible College Spartans.

Even though the Bears found themselves in foul trouble early in the game, Senior Shane Brown and Sophomore Brandon Howarth helped the Bears maintain an eight point lead heading into the half.

In the second half it looked like the Bears were getting ready to pull away, but the Spartans picked up their defensive intensity, forced some turnovers, and got hot from behind the arc. In a matter of minutes the Bears found themselves down nine with roughly five minutes to go. However, the Bears mounted a come back of their own with some interior scores and several trips to the free throw line. In the closing minutes the Bears went up five and held on to win 91-88.

The two seniors were huge contributors in the win. Brown went for 15 points and 4 rebounds while Hatton added 17 points and 7 rebounds. There were three other Bears in double digits including Sophomore Charles Brodhead with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Howarth with 16 points and 7 rebounds, and Sophomore Spencer Huiatt with 12 points and 8 assists.

The Bears completed their 2012-13 home schedule with a 9-1 mark. They stand 15-5 overall and travel to Dallas Christian this coming Friday for an 8:00 PM CST start. On Saturday they will travel to Tulsa, OK to play Rhema Bible at 6:00 PM CST.
