Men’s Basketball Adds Two More

Over the last week, the Barclay College men’s basketball team added two more players to the program. Embassy Academy (Odessa, Texas) point guard Dakota Carter and shooting guard Branden Jackson (Alpine, Texas).

Carter averaged 17 points and 4 assists as a senior at Embassy, which competes in the Texas Christian Athletic League. He also earned all-state honors in class 1A District 5 while leading Embassy to the state tournament last year.

“We have a solid feel for where Dakota is at and feel like he is going to benefit greatly from being in the Barclay College community and learning our system,” said Head Coach Royce Bryan. “He really has a great upside and we are in a fortunate position where we can ease him into game action.”

Jackson, on the other hand, will be transferring to Barclay College. He comes by way of a couple junior colleges in Kansas and California. One of those stops was Oxnard Community College (Oxnard, Calif.) where he was named honorable mention in the Western States Conference as a freshman.

“Branden brings a ton of experience with him. You might say he has  been around the block a time or two,” Bryan stated. “The great thing is that we also have the luxury of getting to know what he can and can’t do before throwing him into the fire of a game.”

“Both these guys have a ton of potential if they stick to it and keep improving both on and off the field”, concluded Bryan.
