Senior Day Dominant for Bears Soccer

Saturday afternoon the Barclay College Bears soccer team played their final home game of the 2013 season and once again left the home crowd with plenty to cheer about in an 8-0 victory over St. Louis Christian College (Florissant, MO). The Bears improved to 6-0 on the season at home as they honored their six seniors at halftime.

The Bears struck early and often. Just over twenty minutes into the game Sophomore Kingsley Assibey scored one of his two goals on the day. Freshman Eli Dahir added two more in the first half and Senior defender Pilo Miranda-Troup also found the back of the next for his first goal of the season as the Bears built a comfortable 4-0 lead by the half.

Second half action was very similar to the first half. Senior David Jaimes connected first, followed by Miranda-Troup and Assibey scoring their second goals of the afternoon. The final goal of the day came on Freshman Melvin Lara’s shot from right at midfield when he caught the SLCC goalkeeper out of the box. Defensively, Senior Austin Ogle recorded his second shutout of the season.

The Bears improved to 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. They head to Moore, OK on Tuesday for a 4:00 PM CST showdown with rival Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College. The Bears beat the Saints 3-1 at home early in the season in dramatic fashion under the lights. Tuesday’s game will count toward the standings for both schools in the NCCAA Southwest Region where the Bears sit in first place with a 2-0 region record.
